Get ready to meet your new favorite quilting star! This classic block starts with a nine-patch block in the center but becomes "sew" much more! The framed look of this block is a sure winner, and it is equally as lovely set on point as it is a sitting flat. The kite shapes in the corners will work to create great secondary designs, too.

How to Die Cut 3-color Nine Patch Star Blocks

For best cutting results, position fabric on the lengthwise grain (straight of grain) as it goes under the roller. Tip: The die is specially designed to cut one complete 3-color 9" finished block in one pass through the cutter.

• Fabric Color 1: 
  • Cut three 2 1/2" x 4 1/2" rectangles. Place over shapes A and cut six shapes. (There will be one extra shape. Set aside for next block.)
  • Cut four 3 3/8" squares. Place over shape C and cut 4 shapes.
• Fabric Color 2:
  • Cut two 2 1/2" x 4 1/2" rectangles. Place over shapes A and cut four shapes.
  • Cut four 5 1/2" x 4 1/2" rectangles. Place two rectangles right side up and two rectangles right side down over shapes D.
  • Cut four D pieces right side up and four D pieces right side down.
• Fabric Color 3:
  • Cut four 5 1/2" x 3 1/4" rectangles. Place over shape B and cut four shapes.

Die Tips

• With some fabrics, after cutting, a thread or two will remain where die blades meet. Snip threads with scissors. 
• Blades on some dies are positioned at an angle.  Align fabric to edge of shape, not edge of die board. 
• Use good quality fabric to reduce fabric stretch. 
• It's always a good idea to test cut one shape before cutting many shapes to ensure fabric orientation is correct.
