Betsey Cavallo’s art career began early—at just nine years old—when her parents proudly showcased one of her drawings featuring the family’s Siamese cats. Growing up in a household full of pets, animals quickly became a recurring theme in her artwork and remain a signature element in her designs today. She earned her BFA from the University of New Hampshire in 1979 and soon after began her professional journey as a greeting card designer at Rustcraft. This first role launched a successful career in the stationery and gift industries, where she honed her creative voice and industry expertise. For over a decade, Betsey served as an art director at The Gift Wrap Company. In 2002, she transitioned into full-time freelance work—a move that gave her the creative freedom to expand her artistic portfolio and collaborate with a wide range of clients. Her extensive experience has helped shape a design sensibility that balances commercial appeal with playful charm. With over 2,000 original designs in her growing library, Betsey has worked with companies across the stationery, gift, home décor, and textile industries. Her natural transition into the fabric and quilting markets reflects her deep understanding of repeat patterns, vibrant color, and the joy of playful design. Betsey is known for her whimsical animal illustrations and charming characters, often infused with a sense of surprise and humor that brings a smile to viewers of all ages.
